Experimental Linocut

My neighbour is currently renovating his hard floors and I happened to notice he was throwing out the flooring offcuts. These have a backing of soft black vinyl and, since I'm forever collecting odds and ends to use in my art, I rescued them. I enjoy making linocuts, so I was determined to find out whether the product would be suitable.

Having first made a decorative design, I set to work - and quickly found that the vinyl crumbled quite easily and refused to permit a clean cut. Undeterred, I resolved to complete the exercise since my motto is 'there are no mistakes in art!' and the prints could be used in my art journal and collages.

I printed on handmade paper, watercolour paper, and fabric. You can see the results on YouTube at https://youtu.be/NWHf3kumEhg

Back to the studio for more experimentation!
